How do
I report harassing or threatening emails?
It is against the
law for one person to communicate a threat to another person.
-
Do not
delete the email. You need to keep it as evidence.
-
If you believe
that you are in danger, contact your local law enforcement
agency immediately!
If you are not a
ConnectNC customer, you should discuss the matter with your own
local law enforcement and your ISP.

I requested a new e-mail account, but mail sent to the address
keeps bouncing.
The new mailbox will
be created the first time you check mail. Once you have done
that, either through Web mail or your regular e-mail program,
all e-mail will be received.

Is there a limit to the size of an e-mail message I can send?
No, there is
currently no limit to the size of an e-mail message you can
send.
However, remember we do limit the overall size of your mailbox.
If you send something that is too large for the recipient's
mailbox, it will be returned. If it's too large to be returned
to you, you will not be aware that the recipient did not receive
your message.

Is there a mailbox quota?
Like most ISPs, we
limit the size of subscriber mailboxes. You mailbox limit is 20
megs and there is a max. message size of 6 megs. Once your
mailbox reaches 20 megs mail will no longer be accepted. It will
be returned to the sender along with an error that indicates
that your mailbox quota has been exceeded. If someone tries to
send you message greater than 6 megs in size they will receive
an error message stating the max message size has been reached /
exceeded.
The best way to prevent this from happening, is to be sure that
your mail client is removing the mail from the server when you
retrieve your mail and no one is sending you messages larger
than 6 megs in size.
Please contact us if you require more than 20MB of storage space
for your mail.

Netscape Mail keeps giving me the same messages...
Make sure that the
browser is not set to leave messages on server:
1. Under the Edit menu, select Preferences.
2. Click the plus (+) sign under Mail & Newsgroups.
3. Click Mail Server.
4. On the right side of the screen under Mail Server Type, make
sure "Leave messages on server after retrieval" is not selected.
5. Once you have successfully download your mail it will be
deleted from the mail server and shouldn't reappear (unless
somebody resends the message to you).
If this doesn't work, make sure a damaged mail file isn't
causing you trouble. To rebuild mail files:
1. Close Communicator.
2. Locate the files inbox, inbox.snmpopstate.dat. They are
usually in the mail directory c:...netscapeusersyourusernamemail.
3. Rename inbox to oldinbox.
4. Rename to oldinbox.old.
5. Rename popstate.dat file to popstate.old.
6. Start Communicator, open Mail Messenger, and try retrieving
mail. A new "empty" inbox folder will have been created.

What is my SMTP server?
If you are a DSL or
Dialup Customer, please use smtp.connectnc.net as your SMTP
server. If you are a hosting customer, please use your
domain SMTP server which is www.yourdomain.com. Replace "yourdomain"
with your actual domain name. If you misspell or have any spaces, you will
not be able to send e-mail.

What
settings on my email account can I change?
You can change a
variety of settings, as outlined below.
(Please be careful! Some of these settings can control your
ability to receive mail.
Go to
www.connectnc.com and log in to webmail using your username and
password, then click on the Settings Tab Under Anti-Virus
-
You have the
option to Delete the message contain a virus immediately or
to block it into quarantine
-
You also have
the option to send sender notification (we don't recommend
doing this. A number of worms/viruses forge who the message
is coming from, so this feature is not effective)
-
You can also
determine if you receive notification that the filter caught
a virus
-
Once you have
selected your options click save
Under Anti-Spam
-
You have the
options when a message is filtered to Delete message, to
block message into Quarantine or to Tag the message and let
it pass through.
-
You can also
adjust the settings on how strong the filters work. The
default setting is to Extreme. This is the highest level
Under Attachments

You have the
option to Delete the message immediately or to block it into

You can also
control how strong this filter works

I am receiving emails with some one else's address. Why?
If you are receiving the message
then the message is addressed to you. In order for an to be
received it has to match your email address exactly. Often
when sending to a group users will use a Bcc: line this hides
the email address. Preventing you from seeing everyone the
message was sent to.
